The Sculpture Show post card imageThe Sculpture Show:  Figure and Pattern
June 5 – August 21, 2008

Emmanuel Gallery is pleased to announce its summer exhibition “The Sculpture Show:  Figure and Pattern.”  This is a group show featuring both local and international sculptors.  All of the work is mixed media and deals with aspects of the figure and/or pattern.  We will open the show with a reception in conjunction with the Western Cast Iron Art Conference on the evening of June 4.  W.C.I.A.C.’s keynote speaker Wayne E Potratz, Professor of Art/Sculpture at the University of Minnesota will lecture at 7:00pm.  The reception starts at 6:00 and ends at 9:00.

Artists included in the exhibition are Gathie Falk, Charles Parsons, Rian Kerrane, Michael Brohman, Viviane Le Courtois, Andy Miller, Mark Guilbeau, Manuel Neri, Yuko Yagisawa, Hopi Breton and Elizabeth Catlett.  Many of these artists are professors on Auraria campus.  Others are well known sculptors in our community.  Emmanuel Gallery is borrowing pieces from a private collection to include Neri, Falk and Catlett.

This show also serves as a launching pad for the Auraria Sculpture Park.  A few works in the Figure and Pattern show will be outside on the gallery lawn.  We have also catalogued all the public works on campus and now in the process of developing a conservation plan with AHEC and all three schools at Auraria.  This is an ambitious but very necessary goal.  We hope to start the conservation this year, with completion by 2010.  An even larger goal is to begin an Auraria Sculpture Park Biennial the same year the conservation is completed.

On August 21st we will host a closing reception and public metal pour, both of which are free and open to the public.  Watching sculptors at work is fascinating and exciting due to the nature of the materials.  The reception and pour is from 4:00-7:00pm.

Gallery hours for summer are Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10:00-6:00; Wednesday from 10:00-5:00; and Saturday from 11:00-5:00.  We are always free and open to the public.  Please note that we will be closed the week of July 4.  For more information visit www.wciaa.org and www.emmanuelgallery.org.
